Field Closure Procedure
EMSA-Controlled Fields:
For games taking place under EMSA jurisdiction, please refer to the field status lines.
NOTE: Unless the fields are officially closed through the field status lines, league director, or EMSA Board, regardless of current or pending inclement weather, teams are required to report to their field or risk forfeiture.
It will be the referee’s discretion if the game will commence.
If the fields are open and your team is playing the late game of a double header, and the first game is cancelled due to weather by the referees, it is still mandatory for your team to show up for your scheduled game time as the game may be able to commence if the weather passes. If you do not show, your team will default.
If the fields are open, Team Officials cannot decide to cancel a game amongst themselves regardless of current or pending inclement weather. Only the EMSA Office, EMSA Board or Referee have the authority to do so.

Use the substation readings:
Edmonton East – for the area south of the river and east of Calgary Trail.
Edmonton McCauley – for the area north of the river and east of Highway 2.
Edmonton Lendrum - for the area south of the river and west of Calgary Trail.
Woodcroft - for the area north of the river and west of Highway 2.

If AQHI is listed as…
1-6: The game will proceed as scheduled. Teams are expected to show to the field or will forfeit the game.
If the AQHI rises to 7 or above just before game start or during the game, the game will be cancelled at the field by the referee.
If 2/3’s of the game has not been played already, the game will be rescheduled. See reschedule procedure on next page.
7+: the game will be automatically cancelled and then rescheduled as per the procedure on the next page. No need for teams or referees to show up at the field.
If the AQI is N/A at 4:00pm for the location of your game, the last available reading for that particular location will be the accepted reading.
Games being played on indoor turf such as the Edmonton Scottish Soccer Dome or the Red Deer Dome are not affected by the AQHI.
When to Check - EMSA:
Weekdays - Check the status of your game at 4:00pm (regardless of the time the AQHI was last calculated)
Weekends - Check the status of your game one (1) hour prior to your game start time (regardless of the time the AQHI was last calculated)
NOTE: Games being played in Red Deer or for those teams travelling from Red Deer to the City of Edmonton (or surrounding area) - check the status of your game three (3) hours prior to game start time (regardless of the time the AQHI was last calculated)

Extreme Winter Conditions
Road Conditions:
Edmonton to Red Deer, Red Deer to Edmonton or other teams outside the Greater Edmonton Area that need to travel more than 100km to attend a game:
The travelling team coach shall consult the AMA Road Reports website at (https://roadreports.ama.ab.ca/) conditions three (3) hours prior to kickoff time of all scheduled EMSA league games.
If the AMA Road Reports indicate that any portion of their highway travel is in POOR DRIVING CONDITION (this will be denoted in red) then the team will not travel to the game. A “screen shot” of the road report must be taken with a time stamp.
The travelling team coach is required to email their EMSA League Director & their opponents head coach three (3) hours prior to kickoff time to inform them they will not be travelling to the game. Game details along with the time stamped screen shot will need to be included in the email.

Weather Forecast:
Edmonton to Red Deer, Red Deer to Edmonton or other teams outside the Greater Edmonton Area that need to
travel more than 100km to attend a game:
• The travelling team shall consult the Government of Canada (Environment Canada) website three (3) hours prior
to kickoff time of any EMSA league game. If there are any official storm advisories or warnings in effect for the
City/Town they are traveling to or for the City/Town they are currently in then the team shall not travel to the
game. A “screen shot” of the advisory or warning must be taken with a time stamp. The travelling team coach is
required to email their EMSA League Director & their opponents head coach three (3) hours prior to kickoff time to
inform them they will not be travelling to the game. Game details along with the time stamped screen shot will
need to be included in the email.
Temperature:
Edmonton to Red Deer, Red Deer to Edmonton or other teams outside the Greater Edmonton Area that need to travel more than 100km to attend a game:
The travelling team shall consult the Government of Canada (Environment Canada) website for the City/Town they are traveling to and for the City/Town they are currently in.
If the recorded temperature three (3) hours prior to the scheduled kickoff time of any EMSA league game at either City/Town is -30.0 degrees Celsius or below (inclusive of windchill), the team will not travel to the game.
A “screen shot” of the current temperate must be taken with a time stamp. The travelling team coach is required to email their EMSA League Director & their opponents head coach three (3) hours prior to kickoff time to inform them they will not be travelling to the game. Game details along with the time stamped screen shot will need to be included in the email.
Discipline/Admin Fees:
• Teams will incur no fines if these procedures are followed. EMSA will do their best to reschedule the game at their
time/date discretion based on available facility space. If insufficient facility space and time is available, EMSA
Extreme Winter Conditions
for Teams that have to Travel for League Games
reserves the right declare the game as not played and no points will be awarded to either team. Final league
standings as a result of this may be affected and EMSA reserves the right to determine how the final league
standings will be determined.
• Failure to follow this policy will result in the game being brought to the EMSA Discipline Committee for review.
The Committee will determine whether the game will be recorded as a default loss, or be rescheduled for play.
• Home teams may use the facility time that was booked for the regularly scheduled league game for practice at
their discretion.
