Welcome to our Competitive Grassroots Program for U8 - U11 players! This is your entry into the thrilling world of competitive soccer and EMSA (Edmonton Minor Soccer Association).
Our program is designed to inspire and excite young athletes who are eager to develop their skills and embrace the competitive spirit. With a focus on growth, teamwork, and continual learning, we encourage brave players who are unafraid of making mistakes and are committed to supporting each other on and off the field. Grassroots Competitive FAQ

Kick-Off Weekend: April 10-12
Pre-Season Training: April 13-30

Season Dates: May 1 – July 31, 2026
(As determined by EMSA Schedule)
Grassroots Competitive programs will feature:
1x Game per week
1x Team Training per week
6x Tech Led small sided game sessions during season
1x Cohort Training per week

Teams will compete in the Edmonton Minor Soccer Association (EMSA).
League standings and rules are administered by EMSA.

Practice days are determined by EMSA schedule.
Practice formats include:
Cohort Training (led by Phoenix FC technical staff and supported by Head Coaches)
Team Training (led by Head Coach)
Academy Sessions (led by Phoenix FC technical staff)

Games and practice locations are determined by EMSA schedules and the availability of outdoor fields.

Grassroots Competitive teams will play:
U8-U9: 7v7 (6v6 + Keepers)
U10-U11: 9v9 (8v8 + Keepers)

There is no post-season for Grassroots Competitive programs

Volunteer coaches are utilized at this age group.
Parents play a big role in our program, taking on the role of Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and/or Team Manager to contribute to the program's overall success.
All Coaches should complete all safe sport requirements prior to being rostered (coaching certification costs can be reimbursed).
Head Coaches will receive a honorarium should they volunteer to coach their child’s team and complete all mandated coaching requirements.
Sessions will be provided each week by Tech Staff and are to be followed by all coaches.
On Field support from our Technical Staff, Jr. Coaches, Jr. Tech and Program Director will also be given at sessions.
Please note: In situations where Phoenix FC needs to hire a coach for the team, those additional costs will be incurred and split amongst the team.

Jersey is included with registration. Matching shorts and socks must be purchased separately.
Additional uniforms or other apparel can be purchased from our Adidas store.
Please note: A uniform bond will be assessed at the end of the year if the uniform has not been returned on time or in proper condition.

$150.00 for 4 hours required
The Volunteer Fee is refunded once the required (4) volunteer hours have been completed.
This amount is not included in Program Costs and is charged as a Season Bond at the end of the volunteer season if requirements are not met.
